Wake services for Stephen R. Loeffelholz, 39, Norman are scheduled for 7 p.m., Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Rev. Kenneth Kulinski officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Kulinski as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, under the direction of Mayes Funeral Directors.

He died Sunday, March 25, at Norman Regional Hospital.

Mr. Loeffelholz was fire inspector at the Norman Fire Department.

The family has designated the American Cancer Society, Cleveland County Unit, 2221 W. Lindsey, Suite 212, Norman 73069, and the Inpatient Oncology Unit, Norman Regional Hospital Foundation, PO Box 1665, Norman, 73070, as appropriate for memorial contributions.

Loeffelholz, a 13 year veteran of the Norman Fire Department, died Sunday, March 25 at Norman Regional Hospital after an extended illness.

He was born December 31, 1950, in Norman to Robert F. and Doris Appleby Loeffelholz. He graduated from Norman High School in 1969 and attended the University of Oklahoma and Central State University.

He married Diane Foulks on June 24, 1972 in Norman.

Loeffelholz received an associate's degree in fire protection technology from the Oklahoma State University Technical Institute in May of 1978 and attended the National Fire Fighters Academy in Maryland in 1989.

He began his career at the department in March of 1977 as a firefighter and was promoted to driver engineer in April of 1982.

Through his career as a fire inspector, which he started May 6, 1985, Loeffelholz worked throughout the community - from building inspections to fire safety talks at local schools and businesses. He coordinated the department's portion of the "Kids Are Special" program, conducted each fall by the Norman Regional Hospital Auxiliary as a health and safety fair for third graders. Approximately 1,500 children attended the program each year.

As a member of the Norman Fire Department, he was active in fire case determination, arson investigations and fire code compliance, as well as serving as a communication officer.

He was a member of the Oklahoma Firefighters Association, Local 2067 of the International Association of Firefighters, and the International Association of Arson Investigators at the state and national levels.

He was a commissioned police officer for investigations. As a veteran of the U.S. Army, Loeffelholz also served with the National Guard for six years. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife and two sons, Aaron and Jake Loeffelholz of the home; his parents, of Norman; a sister, Janet Sides of Fort Wayne, Inc; a brother, Donald Loeffelholz of Norman; his mother-in-law, Pauline Foulks of Norman; father-in-law, Robert Foulks of Mesa, Ariz.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Bearers will be Larry Smizer, Larry Gardner, Bob Appleby, Donald Loeffelholz, Wayne Steely and David Jicha.

Honorary bearers will be members of the Norman Fire Department and honor guard will be members of the Norman police and fire departments.

The family has designated the Inpatient Oncology Unit, in care of Norman Regional Hospital Foundation, PO Box 1665, Norman, 73070 or the American Cancer Society, Cleveland County Unit, 2221 W. Lindsey, Suite 212, Norman 73069 as appropriate for memorial contributions.
